Is the Garibaldi hike steep? The Garibaldi hike indeed presents varying levels of steepness along its route. The initial few kilometers can be quite challenging, as this section is characterized by the steepest incline of the entire trail. During this portion, hikers will encounter switchbacks, which consist of uphill zig-zags in the trail. While these switchbacks can be tiring, they are not as steep as the earlier segments. As you continue on the trail and reach the Taylor Meadows Junction, you’ll find that the most arduous part of the ascent is behind you. So, if you plan to tackle the Garibaldi hike, be prepared for a demanding start, but take solace in the fact that the trail becomes less steep as you progress, especially after reaching Taylor Meadows Junction. Is there a presence of bears at Garibaldi Lake? Yes, the region encompassing Whistler, the adjacent mountain ranges, and Garibaldi Provincial Park serves as habitat for two distinct species of bears: black bears and grizzly bears. Among these, black bears are the more commonly encountered variety in the valley, and they are known to frequent not only the park but also venture into Whistler Village, making sightings relatively frequent.
